Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito expressed support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s recent directive banning government officials and personnel from using sirens, blinkers, and similar flashing devices.
"That’s a very welcome announcement from the President. I support this 100%! This was done during PNoy’s time, then I am happy PBBM issued this directive prohibiting use of blinkers and sirens,” Ejercito said.
In a bid to prioritize the welfare of the public, President Marcos on Wednesday, April 10, issued Administrative Order No. 18, prohibiting all government officials and personnel from utilizing sirens, blinkers, and other similar gadgets “that produce exceptionally loud or startling sound.”
“Unauthorized and improper use of signaling or flashing devices by government officials and employees shall be dealt with in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations,” the AO read.
Ejercito said that it appeared the use of sirens, blinkers, Highway Patrol Group escorts in a convoy had become a “trend” among government officials.
“While everyone is stuck in traffic, convoys pass and bullies everyone on the road,” the lawmaker from San Juan said.
“The feeling of entitlement!” he added.
When asked if he uses sirens or blinkers, Ejercito said he never does, especially police motorcycle escorts, adding that he finds them embarrassing.
“Not at all. Never. Especially police motorcycle escorts, I never want to have one. Nakakahiya.”
