JV Ejercito backs confirmation of DILG’s Abalos, DOJ’s Remulla
September 14, 2022
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito on
Wednesday expressed his support for the confirmation of Local Government
Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying”
Remulla.
During the plenary session of the Commission
of Appointments earlier, Ejercito lauded Abalos, a fellow local chief executive
and alumnus of the De La Salle University, for facilitating the rapid
development of Mandaluyong.
“As chairman of the Committee of Local
Government of the Senate, I look forward to working with him. In fact, we have
already started on some of the tasks and challenges that we have ahead of us,
especially the implementation of the Mandanas-Garcia Act (Ruling) and among
others,” he said.
Abalos was chairman of the Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority (MMDA) from January 2021 to February 2022. Prior to this,
he served as Mayor of Mandaluyong from 1998 to 2004 and 2007 to 2016 and is
often credited for transforming the city into the Tiger City of the
Philippines. He also represented Mandaluyong in the House of Representatives
from 2004 to 2007.
The lawmaker from San Juan also endorsed the
confirmation of Remulla, whom he considers a “personal friend” and a mentor in
politics and business.
“Si Sec. Boying po ay kilala ko bilang isang
taong may integridad at paninindigan. Siya ay naniniwala na ang gobyerno ay
para sa tao at ang batas ay nariyan upang protektahan ang mga naaapi. Tiwala
ako na hindi niya ipagpapalit ang kanyang prinsipyo sa kahit anong bagay,”
Ejercito said.
Remulla served as Governor of Cavite from 2016
to 2019, as well as representative of the province’s 7th district from 2010 to
2013 and 2019 to 2022. He was congressman for Cavite’s 3rd district from 2004
to 2010.
Ejercito and Remulla are currently co-hosts on DZRH’s
weekend radio program Executive Session.
