SPECIALTY CENTER FOR CENTRAL VISAYAS (BOHOL)
April 23, 2025
What used to be an impossible dream is slowly becoming a reality! When I took over the helm of the Committee on Health in 2017, one of the requests back then was the expansion of the Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran, Bohol which was working beyond its capacity. Patients were on corridors because of overcrowding.
Through our intervention, during the budget hearings, we were able to allocate P2-billion for the construction of a new facility in Cortes, Bohol. Because of its size, the facility was identified to be one of the specialty centers for the Visayas, which have a heart, lung, kidney and cancer center.
The medical equipment are top notch! Comparable to the ones used by the top hospitals. Open heart surgeries, kidney and liver transplants and other complicated procedures can be done in this facility.
Feel so happy to see the development because I saw this area which was still raw land back in 2017.
This in line with the Universal Healthcare Act which aims to give access to good quality healthcare for all Filipinos without the financial burden. Improvement of health facilities is a must for UHC!
The Specialty Center will serve not only Bohol, but the whole Central Visayas including Cebu, Siquijor and other nearby provinces.
Slowly but surely the specialty center for Central Visayas is now becoming a reality!
