JV Ejercito relinquishes chairmanship of local government, housing committees
May 21, 2024
Following the recent change in leadership,
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has resigned on Tuesday, May 21, as
chairperson of the committees on local government and housing.
On Monday, May 20, Ejercito also stepped down
as Deputy Majority Leader after Senator Migz Zubiri resigned as Senate
President.
“After thoughtful consideration, it is with a
heavy heart that I decided to tender my resignation as Chairperson of the
Committee on Local Government and the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing, and
Resettlement,” Ejercito said in a letter
sent to the office of the newly elected Senate President Francis “Chiz”
Escudero.
Ejercito said that it is in the “best
interest” of the Senate for him to relinquish these positions “to give the new
leadership a free hand in choosing new chairpersons for the mentioned
committees.”
“It has been an honor and privilege to have
led these committees and I am equally humbled to be given the opportunity to
address the concerns of our local governments and the housing sector.”
He noted that he will continue to support the
Senate and “will be steadfast in our collective commitment to serve the
Filipino people.”
